Costs and Money in Malta
There are plenty of places to exchange your money on the island of Malta.
Go to a Maltese ATM, Bank, Hotel, and Local tourist office, and they’ll take care of it for you.
Travelers checks are always welcome and a good choice when traveling in Malta. The island of Malta accepts Visa, MasterCard, and some American Express cards. The Maltese Lira was the official currency of Malta through January of 2008, when they officially switched over to the Euro, which of course, greatly simplifies things.
Please note that the lira is no longer traded, but if you have leftover lira from your last exotic vacation in Malta, you can exchange it for Euro at any change station.
